Security: Please be alert to any unattended bags, or suspicious characters and sounds.  Take care amongst large queues or crowds. See also this Police advisory link.

The British Museum - Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3DG, United Kingdom

Your museum tour will last 90 minutes followed by a brief stop before starting the walking tour.

The guide will accompany you by bus or tube from the Museum to Trafalgar Square for the start of your walking tour.

The walking tour lasts about 90 - 120 minutes and covers a distance of approximately 1.5 miles.  The tour can be adapted to suit varying abilities.

The walking tour finishes at Westminster Pier where your boat journey will begin.

The boat journey lasts approximately 40 minutes and concludes at Tower Pier.  Toilets and refreshments are available on board the boat.

Your guide can give you directions to continue your day from Tower Pier.

The meeting point for all our tours is in the South East corner of the British Museum's Great Court, at the statue of a 'boy on a horse', near the Information Desk.  Our guide(s) wear a blue lanyard with a Bible Tours badge.

We are now advising all our visitors to avoid standing in the long queue outside the front of the Museum.  Instead, walk around to the back of the museum (Montagu Place, WC1E 7JW) as there is generally a smaller queue.  Please be sure that your smartphone is working, so we can contact you if necessary.  We will only reply to overseas numbers using WhatsApp or email.

You can contact us at info@bible-tours.co.uk.  The administration manager's personal mobile number is 07496845629 (messages are preferred, but we cannot guarantee an immediate response).  The museum is open at 9am (lobby & WC only); the galleries open at 10am.  Please allow at least one hour to walk from the nearest tube station and through security at either the front or back entrance.

At the end of the Walking Tour, your tour guide will accompany you to Westminster Pier for the start of your boat journey on the River Thames.

Before leaving you, your tour guide will ensure that you have boarded the boat and that you have any directions or additional information you need to continue your journey and/or other activities after leaving the boat at Tower Pier.  You may like to give your guide the customary tip (gratuity), as we generally only cover their basic costs in attending the museum.

  • Smart but practical attire: The first part of your tour is a Bible Tour of the museum, so dress as smart as you can, but we realise that you may well have a long journey to join us and that you also need to be dressed appropriately for the walk and boat ride that follow the museum.  Comfortable shoes, and appropriate seasonal wear for the time of year.
  • Bible: Your Bible will be invaluable during the museum tour - but remember that you need to carry it for the rest of the day, so bring a pocket bible or use the JW Library app on your smartphone.
  • Notepad and Pen: You may want to take your own notes as we go around the museum, either in a notepad or on your smartphone.
  • Camera: Photography is permitted.  No video or audio recordings are allowed.  Tour material must not be published online or in any other format. You will definitely want your camera during your walking tour and boat ride.
  • Water: The museum can get very hot especially in the upper galleries, and walking around the city can be tiring, so make sure to stay hydrated.
  • Light snack/drink: You will have a brief opportunity to purchase a light snack between your museum tour and walking tour, but you may prefer to bring something with you to save time and money.
  • Travelcard/Oyster Card/Contactless card: We will use public transport during your tour, you will need to have either a pre-paid Travelcard (the paper-type), an Oyster card or a UK-issued contactless payment card.  London buses do not accept cash payment. See TfL website for details.
  • Umbrella: We can't guarantee the British weather, so please come prepared for inclement weather, if forecast.
  • Bags: Please do not bring any large bags into the museum, security will not allow any bag with wheels.
